BACKGROUND

Social Housing Solutions (SHS) Management Co-operative Limited is a social housing institution (or SHI) incorporated as a primary (non-profit) management co-operative. Members provide professional services (in relation to delivering social housing projects) to the co-operative in order for it to attain its goals.

MISSION

SHS’ mission is to contribute to reducing the housing backlog of South Africa through the provision of social housing opportunities for the people of South Africa.

SHS’ main long term objective is to support the government reduce social and economic inequality through the provision of valuable economic assets, particularly through:

• Building high quality, affordable houses for the GAP market
• Support the creation of economic (housing) assets;
• Building rental stock for municipalities to diversify revenue sources at local/district levels;
• Building sustainable economic entities

MANAGEMENT

The Board of Directors of SHS Co-op is made up of individuals from a variety of backgrounds and is very active in all major aspects of the organization. Their over 30 years of combined professional experience covers expertise in many areas, including research and policy development; financial management; project planning and management; human resources management; sales and marketing; and engineering and quantity surveying from both public and private sectors.

The members of SHS realised that social housing can be a catalyst for the transformation of South African cities into sustainable communities close to economic opportunities for the people of South Africa.
